2005 was the first year of the new C6 model of Corvette, and featured many refinements and upgrades over the C5 generation. Starting under the hood was the new LS2 V-8 displacing 6.0L producing a nice round 400 horsepower and 500lb. ft. of torque. This put the base C6 engine a scant five horsepower short of what the C5 Z06 offered, while torque was the same as the Z06 but was reached at a slightly lower RPM. GM was able to accomplish this feat by stretching the bore 2.6mm, increasing compression ratio to 10.9:1, redesigning the intake and exhaust manifolds for more flow, and reducing backpressure in the exhaust by 10 percent. All that power is routed back to GM's Hydra-Matic 4L65E four speed automatic transmission with performance shift algorithm to make sure you're always in the right gear at the right time. Like the C5 before it, the C6 has a rear mounted transaxle for better weight distribution, and 2.73:1 rear differential ratio for quiet and economical highway cruising. Limited slip is also standard equipment, and assists the sticky Goodyears to put the power down. Wheel sizes are offset 18" front and 19" rear, with 8.5 inches of rubber in the front, and 10 inches in the rear. Brakes are power ventilated discs sized 12.8" in the front and 12" in the rear. As part of the redesign, GM pushed the wheels of the Corvette to the corners of the body for better handling, while increasing the wheelbase 1.2 inches for more legroom. This move gives the C6 a nice planted feeling and the ride is sports car precise without being too firm for comfort. Steering feel through the power assisted rack and pinion is nicely weighted and gives a good feel for what the front tires are doing. On the outside, the styling of the C6 is what really sets the car apart. The beautiful example you see here, finished in brilliant black metallic, shows the biggest change from all Corvettes of the previous forty two years, exposed headlights! This design decision caused a lot of uproar amongst the Corvette faithful, but was done to improve the lines of the car, while reducing weight over the front end. The styling was said to be inspired by the first and second generation Corvettes, along with modern stealth jet fighters. Either way, it turned out great, and the C6 draws attention anywhere. This low mileage garage kept beauty looks amazing with the top on or off, with a deep, rich, mirror quality to the reflection from the paint. Headlights are free of clouding and scratches, and all emblems and trim is in excellent condition. Inside the classy coupe, the interior appears just as new. The leather on black bucket seats is supple and soft, while the carpets and door panels are in as new condition. This baby has all the power accessories, plus power seats, excellent factory CD stereo, and dual zone automatic climate control. All rubbers and glass are in as new condition. THis is one super clean, untouched, unmolested, time capsule C6. It has been lovingly cared for since new, and just needs a new owner to carry on loving and caring for it.
