The name “King of the Road” is one of the most legendary titles in Shelby history, and in 2008 Ford and Shelby revived it to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original 1968 GT500KR. What they built was more than just a Mustang— it was a limited-production, factory-engineered performance icon destined for collectors from the very beginning. This stunning example, finished in brilliant Silver Metallic with bold Vista Blue racing stripes over a black leather interior, has covered only 921 miles from new and remains in as-new condition throughout. It is one of just 1,000 examples produced for the 2008 model year, each hand-finished at Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas, Nevada. Power comes from the supercharged 5.4L SVT V-8, specially tuned by Ford Racing to produce 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, backed by a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. Unique to the KR package is a carbon-fiber composite hood with functional vents, 18-inch Alcoa forged wheels, special Shelby suspension tuning, and a host of performance upgrades that made the KR the most powerful factory Mustang ever built at the time of release. Inside, the driver is greeted by leather seating with Shelby embroidery, unique aluminum trim, and a serialized dash plaque denoting its authenticity. Every surface remains essentially untouched thanks to the ultra-low mileage. Carroll Shelby himself oversaw the KR program, just as he had in 1968, making this a true continuation of the Shelby legacy.
