The third generation Firebird was a hit for General Motors and the performance driving enthusiast from its introduction in 1982 until it's production end in 1992. This icon is instantly recognized by even by non-automotive enthusiasts due to the use of a Pontiac Firebird as the extravagantly equipped "KITT" in the hit 80's television show "Knight Rider" staring that other 80's memorable character David Hasselhoff. And while "KITT's" performance capabilities may have been slightly exaggerated for the television screen, the performance ability of this very special "Formula" model on offer here needs no such embellishment. Equipped with the LB9 305CI Tuned Port Injection V-8, N10 Dual Catalytic Converters, MM5 5-Speed Manual Transmission, G80 Limited Slip Differential, and WS6 Performance Suspension Package, this Firebird was a 1980s wolf in sheep's clothing. Car and Driver Magazine called Formula models so optioned "Sleeper Formulas" as the performance exceeded even the heavier but more powerful top tier Trans Am models with the 350CI V-8 and did it with a window sticker cost savings of almost 30% compared to a similarly equipped Trans Am. This was the driver cognoscenti's car of choice for "Driving Excitement" as the tagline went. The same Car and Driver article also theorized that only some 50 units of these specifically equipped Formulas were built each model year, thus making this not only a fun and exciting automobile, but a rare bird indeed. The 1989 Formula cataloged here shows just 4,791 miles from new and is in excellent and original condition. Produced in February of 1989 at the Van Nuys, CA factory, this Firebird was delivered to Mike Smith Buick-Pontiac of Lockport, NY. Purchased new on June 11th, 1989, this Firebird went on to lead a very sheltered and pampered life. The original owner kept the vehicle in a storage unit in upstate New York until the time of his passing, when the car was brought to Georgia by the family and later on to Florida. This classic Pontiac retains its original owner's manual and the original window sticker which has been lovingly framed for display. In the rear storage area are the original matching grey T-Top sunshades in their original cardboard box, the original T-Top storage bag, a period Lebra front end cover with matching mirror covers, and an indoor car cover. A folder with service receipts and New York state vehicle inspection forms are included along with a clean CarFax vehicle history report. A paint meter inspection report has been included by Burnyzz showing this to be an original paint car that has not received any cosmetic or collision repairs. This very well could be the lowest mile "Sleeper Formula" in the entire world, and it is only available here at Burnyzz. Available for your immediate inspection at our showroom located at 1 Aspen Rd. in beautiful and sunny Ocala, Florida. Contact Brian at 352-307-1968 with any questions or for further information.
