The striking 1969 Pontiac GTO convertible you see pictured here for sale rolled off the assembly line in Baltimore, Maryland on April 23rd, 1969. Finished in code 63 Champagne over code 58 black vinyl with an Ivory White vinyl power top, this GTO is rare and unique automobile, but we have only scratched the surface. This GTO rolled out of the factory with the super rare RAM AIR IV 400 and it was mated to a close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Other factory options included the heavy duty "Safe-T-Track" rear differential ($63.19), AM/FM Radio ($133.76), Rally II wheels ($84.26), Custom Sport Steering Wheel ($34.76), console ($55.82), Rally Gauge Cluster w/Clock ($50.55), Power front disc brakes ($64.25) and the Ride and Handling package ($4.21). This brought the grand total to a whopping $4,690.80, smack dab in Corvette territory, but this has a back seat. Shipped to and sold new by David M. Fogel Pontiac in Wayne, Pennsylvania, this GTO has been fully restored, carries PHS documentation, and has a replacement "WW" code RAM AIR IV engine. The power top is in excellent condition and goes up and down at a touch of the button. The paint condition is better than it ever was in 1969, and the Rally II wheels look excellent wrapped in correct Firestone raised white letter tires.
Pontiac only produced 759 RAM AIR IV GTOs in 69', and the PHS documents show this to be 1 of only 45 RAM AIR IV 4-speed convertibles produced. Factor in the unique Code 63 Champagne paint and this could be a 1 of 1 as equipped. Truly one of the highest performance Pontiacs ever produced, this ultra rare and desirable GTO is your opportunity to own a unique example of the peak of the muscle car era. Description

Pontiac Motor Division restyled their hot selling GTO for the 1968 model year, placing the GTO on the new GM A-body frame with a shorter 112-inch wheelbase. The conventional sedan type styling of the 64-67 GTO was replaced with a more curvaceous and streamlined, almost fastback like silhouette. This reborn GTO was also shorter in overall length and height, and lighter on the scales. The new styling featured the now famous "Endura" front bumper that could take a hit without leaving a mark, and also there was a new style twin hood scoops, hidden wiper assemblies, and a spoiler could be added to the back decklid. While most of the engine choices in 68' were carry overs from the 67' GTO, the horsepower rating really exploded for the 1969 model year with the introduction of the "RAM AIR IV". This red hot 400CI V-8 had a larger Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor, special aluminum high rise intake manifold with larger runners, new round port heads with redesigned intake ports, high lift camshaft combined with higher lift rocker arms combined for a gross valve lift of .530 inches, and header like high flow exhaust manifolds. This monster mill was factory rated( wink, wink) at 370 horsepower and 445 lb. ft. of torque. This horsepower rating was most likely to comply with GM's edict of a maximum of no more than 1 horsepower per 10 lbs. of curb weight, as the peak rating was at 5,000rpm, 100rpm less than the Ram Air III engine, and the RAM AIR IV would spin all the way to 6,000 rpm. The more likely rating is closer to 425 horsepower, and you can feel every one of those thoroughbreds pushing into the seat when you mash the throttle.
